A course taught by Amii Fellow and Associate Professor at the University of Alberta Matthew E. Taylor will soon be made available to anyone with an internet connection.

The course, Interactive Machine Learning, starts on September 1 and is free to audit. Taking place every Tuesday and Thursday from September 1 to December 3, the course will teach students about interactive machine learning (which involves a learning AI and one or more humans), as well as the background and tools needed to conduct research in this emerging area.

The course will be recorded and made available to audit by all those interested. Students taking the course for credit will participate in regular synchronous class meetings.

How do you want to interact with AI systems? We don’t know what tomorrow’s AI systems will be capable of, but we do know that learning will be a critical component. Unlike traditional machine learning, interactive machine learning involves a learning AI and one or more humans. This can range from using humans to label data to human-in-the-loop to human-AI teaming.
