The 2023 JUNO Awards returned to Edmonton this year, and Amii made history as the first-ever AI partner of the JUNOS. To celebrate Canadian achievements and innovation in music in true Amii fashion, we hosted a series of JUNO Talks showcasing the intersections of artificial intelligence in music & sound. The events highlighted the work of a few of our Fellows and Canada CIFAR AI Chairs at Amii: Osmar Zaïane with Principal Investigator Michael Frishkopf, Levi Lelis and Patrick Pilarski.

We were pleased to welcome Minister of Tourism Randy Boissonnault and Minister of Canadian Heritage Pablo Rodriguez to Amii HQ to talk about our work to advance the future of artificial intelligence and its impact in Canada and around the world.

The Ministers joined us for our last JUNO Talks presentation with Patrick Pilarski on “Bionic Limbs that Enable People to Play & Express Themselves through Music”, which captured the imagination of the kids in attendance.

As the Official AI partner of the JUNO Awards, we were proud to present the work of BLINC Lab, led by Pilarski and Dr. Jacqueline Hebert, MD, at the JUNO Opening Night Awards. The must-see activation featured various AI-enabled prostheses demonstrating how artificial intelligence can enable and transform musical expression for people with limb differences.

We ended our night with Patrick joining Cam Linke (CEO, Amii) on stage to present Alexisonfire with the Rock Album of the year.

JUNOS week brought an indelible buzz to Edmonton and Amii is proud to have been a part of it–as we continue to push what’s possible in AI and celebrate Canadian ideas and innovation.
