Amii is excited to announce a one-year partnership with Tourism Jasper to build AI capacity and explore applications of artificial intelligence that will support the success of tourism operators in Jasper. Through this collaboration, Amii and Tourism Jasper aim to make data-driven decisions to optimize tourist operations and translate AI research into real world impact for the benefit of all who live, work, visit, and enjoy Jasper National Park.
“As a beloved national park, Jasper is one of the world’s most beautiful places and an economic driver that attracts millions of visitors to Alberta every year — welcoming over 2.1 million visitors in 2021,” said Stephanie Enders, VP of Product at Amii. “Amii is thrilled to work with Tourism Jasper to explore opportunities of how AI and machine learning can be leveraged to support tourism operations while keeping environmental protection and conservation efforts top of mind. The possibilities of what this partnership can bring and the challenges AI can solve, from light pollution monitoring, visitor management safety, and wildlife conservation is limitless and very exciting.”
As part of the one-year partnership Amii will provide AI literacy and skill training for the Tourism Jasper team, work with tourism domain experts to map out AI opportunities, and support the recruitment and mentorship of technical talent to move projects forward – which will also include a dedicated machine learning intern to work on Tourism Jasper projects throughout the year. Amii Fellows and Canada CIFAR AI Chairs Matthew Guzdial, Patrick Pilarski, and Marlos C. Machado will also be presenting at the annual Jasper Dark Sky Festival happening October 13 to 22, 2023.
"For over a decade, the Jasper Dark Sky Festival has invited people to be awe-struck by our universe,” said James Jackson, President & CEO, Tourism Jasper. “As part of our exploration of the STEM fields, we're thrilled to have three of Amii's frontier-leading Canada CIFAR AI Chairs showcasing their work in one of the world's most beautiful places. Amii will also help us apply AI and machine learning to our destination analytics and tourism forecasting, which will drive Jasper forward into the future.”
Amii and Tourism Jasper will deliver the first public presentation of the project findings and use cases at Upper Bound 2024 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
