From May 24 to 27, AI Week is a chance to celebrate the past two decades of groundbreaking AI research and application that has been centred in Alberta. But it’s also a time to look forward at the potential of the city’s vibrant and growing AI community.

The AI Week Talent Mixer offers the opportunity for AI talent to connect directly with businesses and organizations looking to hire. It is the place to find job opportunities and discover how to advance your AI career.

Alberta’s growing AI community attracts both global experts and emerging AI talent, like MSc student Erfan Miahi, who was drawn to the University of Alberta’s Reinforcement Learning and Artificial Intelligence Lab.

“I made it a top priority to come here. Everything has been better than I expected once I arrived and found my way to the RLAI lab,” he says.

“I had the opportunity to work with a number of fantastic researchers, learn a lot from them, and have fun at the same time.”

Alberta’s reputation as a hub for AI, specifically reinforcement learning, was also a draw for PhD student Matthew Schlegel, who moved to the area after studying at Indiana University Bloomington.

“I’ve never been a part of such an intelligent and forward-thinking community, and I know I’ve made connections that will last for a lifetime. The community has exploded in recent years, and I’m very excited to see Edmonton become even more of an AI paradise in the coming years,” he says.
