Now Hiring: NIDUS Lab - Multiple Positions

Northern Institute for Deep Learning in Ultrasound (NIDUS) is a multidisciplinary research lab focussing on the application of Artificial Intelligence in ultrasound. We focus on developing Deep Learning techniques to improve various ultrasound examinations. NIDUS functions as part of the Department of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. The NIDUS team is led by Dr. Jacob Jaremko who is a Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) Chair at the Department of Radiology and we work closely with top researchers and AI scientists at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (AMII).

PhD Student

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate must have the following skills and domain knowledge

  • Familiarity with Deep Learning and image analysis algorithms
  • Strong programming skills in python
  • Familiar with image processing and visualization libraries such as VTK and ITK
  • Working knowledge in using deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Keras
  • Experience in working with medical images is desirable
  • A track record in medical image analysis and computer vision, including publications in peer-reviewed conferences/journal will be given a high weightage

Postdoctoral Fellow

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be an individual who:

  • Designs and conducts scientific research in image processing techniques and deep learning applications in medical images
  • Develops and carries out independent research consistent with team objectives
  • Has hands-on experience in developing and integrating software developed for scientific applications
  • Writes research papers and contributes to research grant applications
  • Presents research results at group meetings, departmental seminars, scientific conferences, and related settings
  • Fosters communication within the team and with various collaborators
  • Assists in the supervision of students and graduate teaching

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computing Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field obtained
  • Degree awarded or expected to be completed by March 2022
  • Must be within 5 years of completion of Ph.D

Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate must have the following skills and domain knowledge

  • Proven accomplishments in developing image analysis algorithms
  • Strong programming skills in python
  • Familiar with image processing and visualization libraries such as VTK and ITK
  • Working knowledge in using deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or Keras
  • Wide experience in developing prototypes and software that can be used in clinical
    research
  • Experience in working with ultrasound, MR images and familiarity with PACS systems is desirable
  • Experience in supervising/mentoring Ph.D. and masters students is desirable
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels is desirable
