Hey there,
One of the things that drives us here at Amii is helping achieve the potential that artificial intelligence has to help fuel breakthroughs in new scientific domains.
That’s why we’re excited to announce a research collaboration with New Harvest to explore the applications of AI and machine learning in cellular agriculture.
We’re eager for this partnership to drive forward both AI and the science behind making animal products from cell cultures rather than traditional ranching and animal husbandry. That could have enormous implications for creating a safer, more sustainable food industry.
It’s an exciting way to cap off what has been a very busy year at Amii. Speaking of which, we’re taking some time this month to look back at some of our favourite moments of 2022. So, check out our social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram), where we’ll be sharing “The Best of Amii 2022” until the end of December.
It’s been inspiring to see all the enthusiasm and vibrance in the AI community this year. I’m looking forward to everything that 2023 will bring — especially when we all get together for Upper Bound, May 23 - 26. Can’t wait to see you there!

This March, over 700 people will join YYC Data Con, a data convention organized by the YYC Data Society for the data community. Experts will be sharing their years of knowledge, strategies and insight.
Amii's very own Associate Machine Learning Scientist, Atefeh Shahroudnejad will be speaking about computer vision and medical imaging.

Amii partners with pipikwan pêhtâkwan and its startup company wâsikan kisewâtisiwin, to harness AI in efforts to challenge misinformation about Indigenous People and include Indigenous People in the development of AI. The project is supported by the PrairiesCan commitment to accelerate AI adoption among SMEs in the Prairie region.

Amii Fellow and Canada CIFAR AI Chair Russ Greiner and University of Alberta researcher and collaborator David Wishart were awarded the Brockhouse Canada Prize for Interdisciplinary Research in Science and Engineering from the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).
