TechTalks on October 20th is your chance to get a sneak peek into the future of AI while also making a positive impact on our community. 

This year’s event will support the vital work of our two charity partners, Boyle Street Community Services and Stollery Children’s Hospital.

Community & Industry Updates:

• Still time to get your tickets for TechTalks - hear from six of Amii's researchers discussing their leading-edge AI research, with all proceeds supporting our charity partners. 
• "Now is the time to act. It is no longer a choice of whether to be involved in AI or not—it’s whether to lead or be led." Read our take on Deloitte Canada's report on AI talent.
• Russ Erickson — Amii's VP, Investment and Partnerships — shared his insights into how AI is revolutionizing many industries with Geekwire.

• Congratulations to our CEO, Cam Linke, for being honoured with the University of Alberta's Alumni Horizon Award, which recognizes the outstanding achievements and contributions of alumni.

Research Updates:

• Amii will be at the Jasper Dark Sky Festival until Oct. 29. Amii Fellows and Canada CIFAR AI Chairs Marlos C. Machado,  Patrick Pilarski and Matthew Guzdial all share insights into the future of AI.
• Fellow and Canada CIFAR AI Chair Martha White will be speaking at the Statistical Sciences Applied Research and Education Seminar about reinforcement learning in the real world.
• In the latest AI Seminar, Bradley Hauer presented "Toward a Concept-Based Theory of Lexical Semantics."

Training Updates:

• Gain a basic, high-level understanding of what’s important and relevant in machine learning with our ML Foundations 1 course. Applications are now open for the Nov. 2 course.
• Build on that knowledge with ML Foundations 2, which introduces you to tools, strategies and knowledge regarding data and ML. Join the Nov. 9 class now.
• Build awareness of best practices in AI standards and governance with our AI Ethics 1 course on Oct. 26. And follow up with hands-on experience in building an ethics framework in AI Ethics 2 on Nov. 26.

Like a charity fun run (minus the running part), TechAid,  presented by Amii is a chance to make a difference while doing something you love. Tech! From October 20-21, 2023, we’re raising money and putting our AI brains to work for charity at TechTalks and TechSupport, plus inspiring the next generation of tech talent at DevCon. This year's charity partners are Stollery Children’s Hospital and Boyle Street Community Services.
