Artificial intelligence is transforming the way we do healthcare. 

And Amii's researchers are a part of that, making impressive advancements with AI in health. Earlier this month, Amii Fellow and Canada CIFAR AI Chair Ross Mitchell and his collaborators received $1 million in funding from The Health Care Unburdened Grant Program. 

The team is working on Jenkins, an AI-powered scribe tool that takes medical notes for doctors working in the emergency room. By reducing admin tasks like note-taking, AI can give doctors more time to treat patients. 

Jenkins is just one of the ways Ross thinks AI is going to revolutionize healthcare. If you’re interested in hearing more, he recently talked about other innovations he’s excited about and the massive impact AI will have in medicine.

• Making privacy a priority - in our latest Meet the Fellows video, we examine the work of Amii Fellow and Canada CIFAR AI Chair Nidhi Hegde on differential privacy, fairness, and machine unlearning. Watch the interview now.  
• In the latest episode of the Approximately Correct podcast, Matt Taylor talks about why Human-In-The-Loop is so vital for the future of reinforcement learning. Listen to the Amii Fellow and Canada CIFAR AI Chair as he talks about building trust and how AI and humans work best collaboratively. 
• Instruction Tuning is a new method to make LLMs better at following instructions. Amii Fellow and Canada CIFAR AI Chair Alona Fyshe dives into the approach and why it is so promising. 

Training Updates:

• ML Foundations 1 is your way to get a basic, high-level understanding of what’s important and relevant in machine learning. Sign up for our Aug. 1 course.
• Then expand on that knowledge with ML Foundations 2, where you'll be introduced to tools, strategies, and knowledge regarding data and ML. The next session is on Aug. 8.
• Learn about the essential ethics considerations for organizations using artificial intelligence in our new AI Ethics 1 and AI Ethics 2 courses. Applications are now open for the next round of sessions.

• Amii and the University of Alberta are actively recruiting new faculty members to join our interdisciplinary research program. We're currently searching for an Assistant Professor (tenure track) in AI-Enhanced Pharmacology Research.
