AI Seminar Series 2021: Dustin Morrill - Hindsight Rationality and Deviation Types in EFGs

The AI Seminar is a weekly meeting at the University of Alberta where researchers interested in artificial intelligence (AI) can share their research. Presenters include both local speakers from the University of Alberta and visitors from other institutions. Topics can be related in any way to artificial intelligence, from foundational theoretical work to innovative applications of AI techniques to new fields and problems.

On March 26, Amii's Dustin Morrill, Ph.D. candidate at the University of Alberta, presented “Hindsight Rationality and Deviation Types in EFGs.”

In this talk, Morrill re-examines deviation types and mediated equilibria in extensive-form games to gain a more complete understanding and resolve past misconceptions, and introduces a new deviation type that has implicitly formed the basis for the counterfactual regret minimization (CFR) algorithm. The talk shows hints of performance improvements that can be gained by only changing CFR's target deviation set in both zero-sum and non-zero-sum games.
