AI Seminar Series 2020: Neeraj Kumar on Computational Pathology

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Seminar is a weekly meeting at the University of Alberta where researchers interested in AI can share their research. Presenters include both local speakers from the University of Alberta and visitors from other institutions. Topics related in any way to artificial intelligence, from foundational theoretical work to innovative applications of AI techniques to new fields and problems, are explored.

On July 10, 2020, Amii researcher and Postdoctoral Fellow at the Greiner Lab (UAlberta) Neeraj Kumar presented Computational Pathology – From Nuclei Segmentation to Precision Oncology.

In his talk, Neeraj explains how computational pathology is alleviating problems of manual histology image assessment. In several computational pathology pipelines, a key module is one that segments nuclei; this has a variety of use-cases including the prediction of cancer grades/stages and prediction of tumour recurrence.
